My background
I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor and a Registered Member MBACP, which stands for Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The BACP is the UK’s professional body for counsellors: it sets the Ethical Framework I work within, it asks that I keep regular clinical supervision, and it holds a public register that anyone can check.
I trained at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling in Newcastle, a training provider accredited by both the BACP and the UKCP. It is where my transactional analysis practice began, and it matters to me that I learned this work here in the North East, from people who practise here too.
My way of working is calm, compassionate and non-judgemental: we go at your pace, in a spirit of mutual curiosity, and I tailor how I work to you rather than fitting you to a method. I’ve also spent many years working within education, alongside teachers, parents and children in school settings, so young people, and the adults holding things together around them, are familiar ground for me.

My practice room at Chapter House
My Saturday practice room is inside Chapter House, a quiet private practice. A number of us work there, independent self-employed therapists, each with our own clients and our own way of working.
The room itself is warm rather than clinical: a green sofa, soft cushions, lamplight and a few plants, with two comfortable seats facing one another. It is a calm, confidential building, and for your fifty minutes the room is simply ours.
I’m there on Saturdays, with appointments at 10:30am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:30pm, 5:00pm and 6:30pm, and the last session finishes at 7:20pm.

Is this right for you?
Times and addresses are the easy part. What matters more is whether the work itself sounds like something that would help. So here is how I work, and who tends to find it useful.
- You don’t need to have it worked out firstMost people arrive able to say only that something is off, or heavy, or not how it used to be. That is a perfectly good place to begin. We make sense of it together, in a spirit of mutual curiosity, rather than you having to turn up with it neatly explained.
- The work is shaped around you, not a methodI’m an integrative counsellor, so I draw on several therapeutic models and follow what actually helps you. You won’t be fitted into one fixed approach because it happens to be the one I use.
- Talking is not the only way inIf words alone haven’t reached it before, sessions can also include somatic work, creative approaches, and some plain explanation of what your mind and body are doing and why. Some things are easier to get at sideways.
- Six focused sessions, or something much longerShort-term work on one particular thing is welcome, and so is open-ended work that takes its time. We review it together as we go, and you are always free to stop.
I’m at Chapter House every Saturday. Appointments are at 10:30am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:30pm, 5:00pm and 6:30pm, and the last session finishes at 7:20pm. Free introductory calls are Monday to Wednesday evenings, 7pm to 9pm.
