How I work

One integrative approach, many threads

I don't press a single method onto everyone. Instead, I draw on several well-established ways of working, woven together around you and what actually helps.

Integrative

Drawing on several therapeutic models, tailored to you rather than one fixed method.

Psychodynamic

Understanding how past experience and unconscious patterns shape the present.

Relational

Using the therapeutic relationship itself as a place of insight and change.

Transactional analysis

Making sense of the patterns and 'scripts' that play out in your relationships.

Creative therapy

Imagery and creative approaches, for when words alone don't quite reach it.

Play therapy

Play-based ways of working, drawing on my years alongside children and young people in schools.

Brief therapy

Focused, time-limited work around a specific issue or decision.

In the room

Sessions can include talk therapy, somatic work, creative interventions and psychoeducation, whatever helps the work along.

Particular experience

Where my experience runs deepest

I work with a wide range of difficulties, but there are a few places life has taken me again and again. All of it is individual work, with you.

New parents & grandparents

One of my specialisms: support through the joys and upheavals that a new arrival brings to a family, working with you as an individual.

Divorce & family tensions

Calm support when family life is strained, separating, or being rebuilt into something new.

People working in education

After many years working within education alongside teachers, parents and children, schools are familiar ground for me.

How I deliver therapy
One to one · short-term or long-term

However long we work together, it is the two of us and no one else. If getting to North Shields is difficult, sessions can also be held online. Just ask when you get in touch.

  • One-to-one sessions, face to face in my practice room
  • Short-term, focused work around a specific concern
  • Long-term, open-ended work at your own pace
Fees

Transparent, always

Therapy is a real investment, and I’d rather you knew every figure before we ever speak. The fee covers your session and the preparation and thought that surround it.

Every session is £60: one rate, with nothing to apply for and no small print. And before any of that, the introductory phone call is free: fifteen minutes to see how it feels, with no obligation to book.

You can pay by bank transfer, or at the session itself, whichever is easiest for you.

Your first session

What happens when you reach out

Not knowing what to expect is often the biggest hurdle. So here is the whole path, step by step.

  1. 1

    A free introductory phone call

Fifteen minutes on the phone, free, with no obligation. I keep those calls for Monday to Wednesday evenings, between 7pm and 9pm. You tell me a little about what brings you; I tell you honestly whether I think I can help. If either of us feels it isn't the right fit, that's a useful answer too.

  2. 2

    Your first session

A gentle start in my practice room. We talk about what's brought you, what you'd like to be different, and any questions you have. There is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable.

  3. 3

    Finding a rhythm

Most people settle into weekly or fortnightly sessions, at the same Saturday time each week. That regularity is part of what makes the work feel calm.

  4. 4

    Reviewing together

We check in regularly on how the work feels and where it's going. Some people finish after a handful of focused sessions; others stay longer. You are always free to finish when it feels right.

Start with the free call. The rest can wait

Fifteen minutes, no cost, no obligation. You’ll know within the first few of them whether this feels right.
